Unit Description

We will be learning the basic color spectrum. We will be able to understand how artists use colors.

 

Lesson Description for Day

We will be taking colored pencils of warm and cool colors to make tie-dye pictures in whatever form they want.

 

State Standards

VA: Cr1.2.II Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices to plan works of art and design.

 

Goals
Unit Goals:

Students will be able to differentiate the ways artists use and create colors.

 

Lesson Goals:

Students will be able to create their own art work using the information they will learn throughout the lesson.

 

Methods Anticipatory Set: Edit

I will set out colored pencils and paper for when they walk in.

Introduce and Model New Knowledge: Edit
1. students will enter the room, teacher will great them.

2. teacher will ask students about their current knowledge about colors and the color spectrum.

3. teacher will show a short video, Elements of Art: Color, on youtube (play from beginning to 2:54)

4. teacher will ask students again to tell her what they think about the colors after watching the video.

5. teacher will then, once done with discussion, tell the students that they will use this new knowledge to create art work themselves.

6. teacher will tell students to use materials to create a, similar to tie-dye, piece that uses a lot of colors and blending.

7. teacher will have students answer three questions on the back of their pictures once they are done presenting.

 

Provide Guided Practice:

Teacher will pass around the color pencils and paper to each table.

 

Provide Independent Practice:

Students will work independently on their projects with some student collaboration.

 

Wrap-Up

Students will present their pictures

 

Assessment Formative/Ongoing Assessment:

Students will be able to use this knowledge of colors to use in further projects.

 

Summative/End Of Lesson Assessment: Edit 1. Answer:

~What was the most interesting thing you learned from this lesson? ~Do you think that this knowledge will help you in further projects? ~Do you think that colors are more important then you first thought?
